Academy ratio Buena Vista reissue titles to Chips Ahoy (1956), scanned from a 16mm Kodak SP print dated 1978. Like the reissue of Dragon Around, it’s a mystery why they choose to replace the headshot and the logo card, when simply substituting the RKO logo at start would have been enough. I haven’t seen the original version though.
When I first watched Chips Ahoy, I had never heard the RKO fanfare before, didn't even know it was a thing. So it playing on Donald's headshot, right before his theme kicked in, seemed like Disney subtly acknowledging this short as the last classic style Donald Duck cartoon, before edutaiment entries took over. I perceived it as a very nice touch from the staff, a quick nod to its historical status in Don's filmography. Then I come to find out years later it was actually a mistake lol. Oh well. My headcanon lives on.

When the drip is respectable but the chips are impeccable (Come on, man, I had to make this joke!)

This is a 1970s re-release because after film "The Jungle Book" the Buena Vista logo was updated, the original 1956 RKO Radio film could be critically damaged and lost

Here's a fun fact about the RKO fanfare sometimes they put in drums

I knew they made this mistake when reissuing the cartoon.

0:51 Uh oh. Looks like Donald is REALLY going to swear revenge on Chip ‘n’ Dale.
I think this was reissued in the early 1970's.

In Dragon Around the logo has the RKO music. It's the only short that have cymbals on the RKO music.
3
0:10-0:14 RKO fanfare in Donald Duck headshot.
4
Why the RKO fanfare on Donald's head?
